November 4th, 2009Author: Fire Pit DesignerOutdoor fire pits are a great way to add bit of oomph to your backyard of patio. It’s very relaxing and a lot of fun to sit round a nice warm fire with a few drinks and some friends and family.
There are however a lot of different fire pit designs. There are permanent fire pits, portable fire pits and some fire pits for cooking food!
Make sure you do your research before buying a fire pit for your home or perhaps you’d like to build your own fire pit?
Safety:
Even though fire pits are designed to safely control a fire, it is still important to take care when putting things in and around the fire pit. Also, whenever using a fire pit, make sure you clean the surrounding area of dry leaves and clutter that could catch fire and cause trouble. You can place a screen over the fire pit which not only contains sparks underneath it, but also reduces the wind’s impact on potentially enlarging the fire. Also, good yard keeping and monitoring the area surrounding the fire pit and removing any low lying branches from above it or debris around it is prudent. Fire pits have the potential to be dangerous, however the steps needed to be taken to ensure their safety are minimal though important.
What Sort Of Design Do You Want?
Firstly, your going to want to decide if you want a permanent or portable fire pit. A permanent fire pit is built in and will normally use natural gas from your house. These can end up looking a bit like a fireplace, but make quite a statement.
Portable fire pits are the most popular simply because they can be moved. So you can take it fishing, camping or… rioting?
Secondly, you will need to decide which fuel you will use in your new fire pit. Wood burning fire pits are the most popular, but there are now alot of community bans on wood burning. Your best alternative would be propane fire pits, which are becoming more and more popular. They offer easy on and off, leave no ashes to clean up, can be used in more locations and are environmentally friendly. A propane fire pit can easily be designed into a table which makes them even more functional.
